Home Décor Trends for Summer

12 July 2018

Opening the door to your home after a long day is often a rewarding experience. Returning to your sanctuary for some R&R allows you to unwind after the stresses of a busy workday. However, for some, returning home can sometimes leave you feeling uninspired. Interior design of your home is often pushed to the back of the list of priorities, the function more important than fashion. And while little jobs around the house take precedence, sometimes this can leave to your home feeling a little bit lacklustre, ultimately having a considerable effect on your mood.

Every year, new trends emerge in the home. From pretty palm patterns to monochrome madness, it can sometimes be difficult to stay on top of them. However, staying up to date doesn’t always have to break the bank. Although there are some simple changes that you can make to update your hallway, take the plunge with one of these trends. So, this summer, take a look at some of the easiest ways to update your home, from furniture finds to carefully curated colours!

Texture

One of the easiest ways to update your home for the summer months is by adding texture to your homes. This is a quick and effective way that can be used in every room in your house, from adding in macramé wall hangings in the bedroom to fringed pillows placed on a chair in the hallway. Textures and embellishments work well on a variety of different colour palettes due to their versatility; whether you’re opting for an earth-toned scheme with stone shades and rich brown hues or are looking to add hints of blush into your home, there are a plethora of different options which will work well within the home. Fringing and feathers to tassels and tweed, bringing in a different dimension in your home décor is going to be huge over the summer months; however, it will also work well into the autumn and winter – a win-win all year round!

Colour Pops

Year round, a neutral palette works best; not only does it allow you to bring in different coloured elements through your furnishings but also provides you with the opportunity to treat it as a blank canvas for you to work with. However, this summer, there are many ways in which you can inject colour into your home. If you’re considering taking the plunge and looking for something slightly more long-term, why not add a feature wall in a vibrant hue, such as forest green or a navy blue? Selecting colours which will work well year-round means that you won’t be faced with something off trend when winter comes around and can evolve with the changing of the seasons. In your hallway, add a splash of colour to your flooring with a tiled option or a brightly coloured runner on your stairs!

Although there are permanent options which can be updated depending on the time of the year, furnishings are another fantastic way of making sure that your home is up-to-date! Look for sofas in light blush shades such as baby pink to soften up your home or finish off the look with colour blocking pillows. The possibilities are endless with colour, and there is a scheme for everyone. Experimentation is key here, so try it out for yourself!

Tropical Prints

Tropical prints are inspiring everything right now; from clothing to homes, they’re definitely a trend that you’ll be wanting to incorporate into your décor this summer. One of the reasons the tropical prints are currently popular  is due to their versatility. Although bright, the print can be used as much or as little as wanted without being too loud. Additionally, the green colour scheme is something that works well in some different environments, making this one to try out!

Millennial Pink

Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2016, Rose Quartz, otherwise known as Millennial Pink infiltrated the trend scene last year. However, it’s still a firm favourite amongst many due to the ease in which it can be used to update your home. One of the reasons why Millennial Pink has proven to be so popular is because it’s so simple; the light shade allows you to give your rooms a new lease of life without being too offensive. It works well with pre-existing colour schemes while adding a little extra touch to places that currently have a simple colour palette. If you’re unsure how to use the colour in your interior design, consider how evident you want the trend to be. For those willing to take the plunge, look for soft carpets or a slightly paler shade for the walls for the perfect amount of pink. Or, if you’re just beginning to dabble in colour, paintings are a great way of trying something out.

Rustic Woods

Over the past couple of years, it has seemed that white has been the colour for furniture. White wardrobes and bookcases allow the room to open up while appearing clean at the same time. However, rustic wooden options are now as popular as ever, especially considering that there are a number of different shades out there for you. Wooden textures are perfect for summer as they bring elements of the outdoors in. Having various shades of wood in a mismatched style removes any strict styles that you’re trying to adhere to and allows a bit of flexibility to your decor.
